Hestian runs fuel efficiency projects in Southern Africa. These Project directly reduces indoor cooking smoke - one of the leading causes of acute respiratory infections, the top killer of young children worldwide.

Hestian’s Improved Cook Stoves and Rocket Barns reduce woodfuel consumption by up to 80%  - significant savings in countries like Malawi, which have high rates of deforestation.

All of the technologies that we promote are locally made.

Results

Over 15,000 improved cookstoves and more than 1,000 Rocket Barns have been constructed and are in use to date with more than 800 people working in the production, construction, monitoring and marketing of the project. More than half of the people working on the project are women.

Hestian is a partner of the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves.
